Work Shift Various (United States of America) Job Summary: The Pharmacist is responsible for appropriate, evidence based, medication use for the institution. They ensure patients get the right medication at the right dose. Pharmacists must have a medication safety viewpoint and be in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations (TJC, BOP, CMS, etc). Pharmacists oversee the activities of pharmacy technicians. Pharmacists must engage in teaching as part of the hospital's mission. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Provides clinical pharmaceutical care to patients. Prevents, detects, and resolves medication-related problems and makes appropriate evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy recommendations. Participates as an effective member of interdisciplinary care team(s) and communicates follow-up with team. Effectively verifies patient medication orders for appropriateness and accuracy. Provides effective medication education to patients, families, team. Enhances the quality of delivery of care. Actively participates in the development and implementation of performance/quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including medication event/adverse reaction reporting & follow-up, clinical guideline development, disease management, medication use evaluation/improvement, cost containment actions. Represents pharmacy services on institutional/practice area committees, quality unit councils. Conducts monthly unit inspections of assigned area. Demonstrates proficiency in pharmacy distributive services. Demonstrates quality, safety and efficiency in the distribution process. Actively collaborates and demonstrate teamwork with pharmacy coworkers to ensure communication, excellent customer service, safe and effective drug distribution. Provides oversight for pharmacy technicians. Participates in opportunities to improve the quality, effectiveness, and/or efficiency in distributing medications. Supports the education and professional development of the Pharmacy Department and other hospital disciplines (nursing/medical/etc.). Precepts residents, pharmacy students, or pharmacy technicians as assigned. Participates colloquially in the development of new programs, services, and practices, educational activities of the pharmacy department and medical team. Engages in professional self-development. Completes medical center/pharmacy competency requirements by deadlines. Establishes regular meetings with manager. Enhances professional and technical knowledge/competency by attending seminars, continuing education programs, department meetings, etc. Demonstrate active membership/service/leadership in professional organizations Purchasing/Inventory May be responsible for pharmaceutical purchasing staff and coordination of purchasing activities for the Consolidated Services Center at WellStar. Maintain relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers to achieve improved cost of goods Serve as an advisor on supply chain forecasting related to: Pharmacy spend and trend budgeting; Vendor market intelligence; New pharmaceutical launches; GPO pricing intelligence and trend reporting. Monitor inventory tracking systems for all products to ensure product availability and supply integrity Manage high cost/low use inventory stocking processes to reduce cost and coordinate inventory across all sites of utilization. Provides clinical pharmaceutical care to patients. Cost Management/Vendor Management Assist Pharmacy Supervisor in performing analysis of contracting opportunities, calculate savings and communicate savings analysis to pharmacist peers and physicians Establish and achieve cost reduction goals Assist Pharmacy Supervisor performing cost/financial analysis and forecasting for wholesaler, vaccine, acute and non-acute facilities and specialty vendor purchases Oversee wholesaler account maintenance to ensure alignment of expense classes, cost centers, and cost accounting for purchasing and inventory transactions Collaborate with wholesaler representatives to take advantage of contract and rebate opportunities Assist Pharmacy Supervisor in serving as a liaison to wholesalers and vendors for issues related to contract prices, performance, fill rates, contract compliance, and supply adherence Assist Pharmacy Supervisor in evaluating FDA licensing and/or regulatory certification is performed on all authorized pharmaceutical suppliers Assist Pharmacy Supervisor in managing the drug recall system, ensuring all affected product is identified, quarantined and returned for manufacturer credit Pharmacy Services Monitor local and national drug shortages and implement tactics to maintain supplies Monitor critically short items and the emergency medication supply Provide supply chain expertise to Wellstar Health System to mitigate drug shortages Work with clinical staff to determine alternatives to critical stock shortages and assist with determining and implementing therapeutic substitutions Work independently and guide others in the design, development and implementation of innovative solutions, or design and implement improvements to existing pharmacy processes Develop and implement initiatives to increase efficiency of the pharmacy supply chain workflow Participate as a member of pharmacy department and hospital multidisciplinary team and committees Write and/or review policies and procedures Have knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations as well as standards governing the practice of pharmacy Assist Pharmacy Supervisor in management of purchasing, contracting, receiving and inventory control pharmacy staff Management of assigned pharmacy technicians or personnel Assist in the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of staff Ensure compliance with Georgia Board of Pharmacy Wholesale Pharmacy and DEA rules and regulations and other governing organizations Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education: Bachelors Pharmacy Required Doctorate Pharmacy-Preferred Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. RPH - Reg Pharmacist Additional License(s) and Certification(s): GA or SC Licensed Pharmacist depending on job location or eligible for licensure. License required within 6 months of hire.
