A Brief Overview This Philadelphia Campus extern opportunity is for 1st year and 2nd year currently enrolled Respiratory Program students. Students in 1st year must have pre-requisites for Respiratory Therapist studies complete. This is a per diem position. The Respiratory Extern works within the Respiratory Care Department to deliver limited respiratory care support services under the supervision of an individual holding a Pennsylvania license. The Respiratory Extern provides supportive care to patients, including surveillance of monitoring equipment; assists respiratory care practitioners in the provision of care to pediatric patients and their families; and maintains a clean, comfortable, and well-stocked area. What you will do Performs equipment set-up and monitoring under direct supervision of RT/Preceptor. Assists in the provision of care to patients and families under the supervision of RT/Preceptor. Demonstrates an awareness of research. Education Qualifications High School Diploma / GED Required Associate's Degree Current enrollment in an accredited respiratory care program or employed as a respiratory extern with an associates degree, awaiting credentialing from the NBRC. Credentials must be completed within 6 months of graduation. Required Skills and Abilities Ability to handle confidential information appropriately. Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex.
