The Medical Assistant promotes and restores patient health by assisting in the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families under the delegation of a healthcare provider. Acts in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Performs other duties as assigned. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Duties Prepares examination and treatment areas. Prepares patients by collecting vitals, bringing them to an exam room, starting data collection and enter data into the EMR. Understands sterile technique and prepares for sterile procedures. Assists the physician or healthcare provider with examinations, treatments and procedures. Obtains specimens for testing. Ensures specimens are properly labeled. Field patient phone calls and communicates with the physician/healthcare provider. Liaison with patients to schedule patient appointments (i.e. follow up care, procedures) through coordination with the provider, authorization team and Clinic RNs as directed. Coordinate patient flow to maximize patient satisfaction. Documents data collected during the patient care process. Inputs orders and/or referrals as requested by the physician or healthcare provider. Cleans exam rooms between patients in accordance with current policies. Prepares and stocks exam rooms and lab area. Communicates supply needs with the Manager, or designee. Performs drug and breath alcohol testing. Administer vaccinations at the request of the physician or healthcare provider; maintains patient vaccination records. Quality Control Maintains proper documentation for medications expiration dates. Completes necessary quality controls as required. Participates in the performance and completion of quality assessment techniques in the clinical area. Adheres to required safety practices/OSHA guidelines in the workplace. Always take immediate corrective action if indicted and reports problems to appropriate personnel for potential or actual safety hazards. Other Travels to other departments and clinics as assigned. Maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance and WHMC confidentiality and security of information policy and procedure. Attend and participate in staff and departmental meetings. Keeps workspace clean and free from clutter. QUALIFICATIONS Required Must apply for credentialing as a Medical Assistant-Registered in Washington within 7 days of hire. Must obtain credentialing as a Medical Assistant-Registered in Washington within 60 days of hire Current AHA BLS certification Preferred Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy Certified Certified X-ray Technician WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position is primarily worked in a clinical environment. The position will require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds. The position will require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required. The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. POSITION DETAILS Hours per week: 40 Employee Status: Regular Full Time Shift: Day Shift (United States of America) Pay Range: $23.00 - $40.25 Actual pay offered will vary based on years of experience.
