Job Summary: Provide high quality health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost-effective manner and in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.
Essential Responsibilities: Provide high-quality health care through direct assessment, diagnosis, and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for patients with common dermatological acute and chronic illnesses and injuries (may include performing histories and physicals; ordering, interpreting, and following up on diagnostic studies; ordering medications; assisting with surgery; performing minor surgery). Review health maintenance services, including patient education, for well members. Refer patients for specialty consultations. Document in writing all care in patients permanent medical record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards. Provide all medical care in accordance with accepted practice standards, hospital/clinic protocols and State licensing guidelines, including clinical skills and abilities in accordance with KPNW and Dermatology Department standards. Coordinate, develop or organize patient or department services or programs. Examples include, but are not limited to: Assist in developing department/clinic protocols. Screen incoming department referrals. Coordinate CME activities for department. Develop written patient education materials. Provide in-service training. Chair or participate on committees. Performs other duties as requested, such as manage the biopsy results, order antibiotics and other medications, follow up with patients concerns and challenges.
Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum two (2) years of experience within the last five (5) years practicing as a NP in an ambulatory dermatology setting Education Graduate of ANA-approved NP training program or equivalent requirements to meet state licensure License, Certification, Registration This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire. Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Nurse Practitioner License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire OR Nurse Practitioner License (Washington) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 6 months of hire OR Nurse Practitioner License (Washington) within 6 months of hire AND Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire National Provider Identifier required at hire Nurse Practitioner National Certificate required at hire Drug Enforcement Administration Registration required at hire Additional Requirements: Working knowledge of all common diseases in dermatology and the appropriate treatment plan. Ability to assess, diagnose and effectively treat common medical disease related to dermatology. Basic knowledge of surgical procedures and techniques Ability to use appropriate surgical equipment, in a safe and competent manner. Knowledge of sterile technique. Safe tissue handling. Ability to suture deep and superficial tissues. Ability to control bleeding using electrosurgical or other topical agents. Ability to apply post-op and pressure dressings to all parts of the body. Minor surgery and surgical assist skills. Ability to independently perform biopsies, excisions of common skin lesions (cysts, small tumors) to include close attention to aesthetic incision placement and closure. Ability to perform skin exams, use of application of liquid nitrogen, and electrodessication and curettage within 6 months of hire. Understanding of post-op protocols for care of the Dermatology surgical patient. Knowledge of documentation and coding requirements. Ability to proficiently document care in EPIC using smart-sets. Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced work environment and when working with complex and often frail patient population. Ability to see large volume of patients, and to interface with physicians and support staff. Ability to triage, assess, teach pre-op and post-op care of patients undergoing Dermatology procedures with the multi-disciplinary team. Proficient and applies adult learning when teaching patients and families. Working knowledge of State health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations. Understanding of capabilities of ancillary and support services. Knows own limitations and when to refer patients. Compact License is acceptable in lieu of a Washington RN license. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum three (3) years of experience practicing as NP in an outpatient dermatology clinic Graduate of ANA-approved NP training program.
