JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): Demonstrates a general knowledge of disease processes, and surgical procedures, including, but not limited to: cardiovascular, pulmonary diseases, endocrine, multisystem involvement. Provides direct patient care in the outpatient Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitation setting with the objective to decrease mortality and recurrent morbidity after a cardiac event/intervention and those with chronic pulmonary disease. Responsible for detailed and accurate medical and psychosocial patient assessment, with the ability to respond in a timely manner to changes in patient condition, using initiative and independent judgement. Responsible for cardiovascular and pulmonary risk factor assessment, goal setting, exercise training, education, counseling, and evaluation of patient progress and response to treatment. Responsible for the development of initial and follow-up treatment plans and documentation in a timely and accurate manner according to regulatory requirements. Reports to the Lead Cardiopulmonary RN and Director of Rehabilitation.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Experience in Critical Care, Emergency Department, or acute medical-surgical clinical experience preferred.

EDUCATION: Graduate of a respiratory therapy program, or bachelor’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY: Current Montana License as a Respiratory Therapist, or an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist Certification. BLS certification required. ACLS training within one year of hire.

Aptitudes: Ability to demonstrate achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Possesses interpersonal/oral and written professional communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and exceptional professional service. Open to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Excellent communication skills and works well with all team members to promote a high quality positive work environment.
