JOB DESCRIPTION – MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Reports to: Center Administrator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant supports the clinical team by performing a variety of patient care, administrative, and clinical tasks in a physician practice setting. This role assists physicians and nurse practitioners in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while ensuring compliance with Nuvia Medical standards, AHCA Medicaid requirements, and HEDIS quality initiatives. The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in patient flow, clinical documentation, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patients.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL SUPPORT
- Prepare patients for examinations, including taking vital signs, updating medical histories, and documenting in the EHR. - Assist providers during examinations and procedures. - Administer medications and immunizations as directed by providers, within scope of practice. - Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform waived lab tests.
PATIENT EXPERIENCE
- Greet and room patients, ensuring a positive and efficient patient experience. - Educate patients on medications, procedures, and follow-up instructions as directed by providers. - Assist with scheduling, referrals, and coordination of care.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient medical records. - Support front office staff with phone calls, appointment scheduling, and insurance verifications as needed. - Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure exam rooms are fully stocked.
COMPLIANCE & QUALITY
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and Florida AHCA Medicaid regulations. - Follow infection control protocols and safety standards. - Support quality improvement initiatives and assist in closing care gaps to improve HEDIS performance measures.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION
- High school diploma or equivalent required. - Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program required. - Current Medical Assistant certification required (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent). - Current CPR certification required.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 1 year of clinical experience in a physician office or outpatient setting preferred. - Experience with Medicaid patient populations strongly preferred. - Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Strong clinical skills including taking vitals, administering injections, and assisting with procedures. - Excellent communication and patient service skills. - Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control practices. - Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment. - Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This role is performed primarily in a medical office setting. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of up to 25 pounds. Regular use of computers, phones, and medical equipment is required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Minimal travel outside of the assigned practice site.
SCHEDULE / HOURS
Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required to support patient care needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
