POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides respiratory care services to patients across the lifespan at Littleton Regional Healthcare (LRH). The RRT supports safe, high-quality patient care through assessment, treatment, education, monitoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, and emergency respiratory support. The RRT demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and a commitment to patient-centered care in alignment with LRH mission, values, and regulatory standards.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTION

 

The RRT is responsible for providing respiratory care services to both inpatient and outpatient populations at Littleton Regional Healthcare. The RRT participates in 24/7 respiratory care coverage, including in-house and on-call responsibilities. The RRT adheres to all LRH policies, departmental standards, and New Hampshire professional practice standards for respiratory care practitioners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

* Share in providing 24-hour in-house respiratory care coverage.  • Utilize scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, rehabilitation, and management of acute and chronic pulmonary dysfunction.  • Provide respiratory care services including adult ventilator management, CPAP/BiPAP, aerosol and nebulizer therapy, airway management, arterial blood gases, chest physiotherapy, pulmonary function testing, oxygen therapy, and patient education.  • Provide respiratory assessment, treatment, monitoring, and support for patients across the lifespan, including newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations within departmental competency expectations.  • Respond to newborn and neonatal respiratory support needs including airway management, oxygen therapy, positive pressure ventilation, CPAP support, suctioning, and emergency stabilization within departmental competency expectations.  • Review existing clinical data, collect additional assessment data, and recommend additional diagnostic information to evaluate patient respiratory status.  • Initiate, conduct, monitor, and modify prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.  • Maintain artificial and natural airways and provide support services to mechanically ventilated patients.  • Perform and document routine respiratory rounds, reassessments, and follow-up care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions.  • Provide patient and family education related to respiratory disease processes, medications, oxygen therapy, inhaler technique, airway clearance, non-invasive ventilation, respiratory equipment, and chronic disease self-management.  • Support discharge readiness through patient education and interdisciplinary coordination.  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and collaborate with providers, nursing, rehabilitation, case management, and ancillary departments to support coordinated patient care and discharge planning.  • Communicate findings, recommendations, and patient concerns to the multidisciplinary care team.  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation within the electronic medical record in accordance with hospital policy and professional standards.  • Complete and document required respiratory equipment checks and ensure respiratory equipment is maintained, operational, and available for patient care needs.  • Actively contribute to departmental quality improvement, patient safety, competency validation, and regulatory readiness activities.  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and respectful communication with patients, families, providers, coworkers, and the public.

Manager of Critical Care

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Specialized Skills:  • Current licensure as an RRT in the State of New Hampshire.  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program required.  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred.  • One to two years of previous acute care respiratory therapy experience preferred.    Required Certifications:  • ACLS  • PALS  • NRP required within 3 months of hire.
