Additional Position Details: A typical day is both fast-paced and patient-focused. Responsibilities include preparing exam rooms, efficiently rooming patients, obtaining vital signs and medical histories, and performing clinical tasks such as injections, EKGs, and point-of-care testing. The Medical Assistant partners closely with providers and team members to maintain patient flow, manage schedules, complete documentation, coordinate referrals and test results, and support patient education. This role also requires flexibility to assist with front desk or phone coverage as needed. Success in this position requires strong teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills to ensure a seamless patient experience while consistently upholding UPMC’s high standards for quality, safety, and professionalism. Responsibilities: Check schedules and organizing patient flow. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc. Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines. Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations. Prepare and clean patient, exam, and procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health). Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required. Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

Medical Assistant, Senior: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required. Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks. Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
