MEDICAL ASSISTANT I
JOB DESCRIPTION Perform a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to help provide care to patients, support physicians and keep office operations running smoothly.

REPORTS TO Practice Manager/ Clinic Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Collect basic patient intake and vitals
2. Perform necessary point of care testing
3. Document all patient visits and communication in EMR properly
4. Performs capillary blood draws, newborn screens, dental varnish, and routine hearing and vision screens
5. Properly administer oral medication as directed by the provider
6. Handles refills/ referrals/ authorizations
7. Answer back line phone calls as needed as well as accurately chart phone calls and initiate proper follow through
8. Perform necessary cleaning duties maintaining an orderly work environment and ensure an adequate stock of medical supplies
9. Responsible for all incoming school/day care forms for the assigned provider
10. Ethical conduct, confidentiality, and collaboration with the healthcare team are expected and considered essential elements of this position
11. Regular & prompt attendance on agreed upon daily and weekly start and end time
12. Can maintain physical demands and work environment as listed below
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. CMA Certification and/ or 6 months Medical Assistant experience
Preferred
1. CPR Certification
2. Knowledge of EMR software
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS This job will require exposure to patient elements. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May work in a noisy or distracting environment. This job will require exposure to patient elements.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK The core hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. but can vary depending on location. This position may require some evening or weekend work depending on location.
COVID/ FLU CONSIDERATIONS If requested by any patient, then staff is required to wear a surgical mask. Patients are strongly encouraged to wear a mask if they are experiencing any acute respiratory symptoms or have a fever. Employees who are not flu-vaccinated will be required to wear a mask in all patient facing areas from September 1 to March 1st unless dates are modified due to clinical factors (unusual epidemic patterns, etc).
