Position Summary
SURGICAL TECH III Orlando Jewett Orthopedic Institute (OHJOI) OHJOI Surgery Full-Time - 3 x 12s Hour Shifts Evenings Position Summary Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service. Education/Training: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of: • Surgical Technology training program; or • Orlando Health training program Licensure/Certification: Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Experience: Four(4) yearsurgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years ofsurgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience). Essential Functions • Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon. • Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure. • Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure. • Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preservesthem for pathology evaluation. • Assistsin ordering and stocking ofspecialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines • In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty. • Providesscrub servicesfor major proceduresin at least 2 surgical specialties(independently with high physician satisfaction). • Prepares and conductstechnical performance-oriented training related to specialty service. • Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulates on major tertiary procedures. • Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles. • In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development. • Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility. • May have limited accessto areasstoring medications. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
