Description Position Summary As a Medical Assistant, provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical office setting demonstrating clinical education and competence in direct patient care as per scope of practice and competency. Meets the communication needs of the patient family, departmental staff and medical staff for the clinic; Prepares and compiles records for the Office as directed; Initiates directions from physician and nursing staff; Participates in performance improvement activities; Maintains regulatory agency requirements, clinic policies and procedures and standards.
Primary Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary responsibilities. 1. Obtains and documents patient medical history, current medications, allergies, pharmacy information, and chief complaint in the EMR. 2. Obtains and records vital signs, height, weight, and other patient information during in-person visits as appropriate. 3. Prepares patients for teleneurology and in-person appointments by ensuring all required documentation, imaging, laboratory results, and prior records are available for provider review. 4. Assists with telemedicine workflows including: o Connecting patients to telehealth platforms o Troubleshooting basic audiovisual issues o Coordinating telemedicine carts or equipment for inpatient consultations o Ensuring providers have access to necessary patient records during telehealth encounters 5. Coordinates outpatient neurology referrals, diagnostic testing, imaging studies, EEGs, sleep studies, and specialty consultations as ordered by the provider. 6. Obtains and manages prior authorizations for medications, imaging, procedures, and diagnostic testing. 7. Provides patients with instructions regarding medications, testing preparation, follow-up appointments, and referrals as directed by the provider. 8. Answers and returns patient phone calls regarding appointments, medication refill requests, test scheduling, and routine clinical questions within scope of practice. 9. Schedules and confirms patient appointments, including telehealth and in-person visits. 10. Verifies insurance eligibility, obtains demographic information, and collects patient payments as applicable. 11. Assists with scanning, uploading, and maintaining patient documentation in the EMR. 12. Maintains exam rooms, telemedicine equipment, and clinical supplies necessary for clinic operations. 13. Participates in coordination of inpatient tele-neurology rounding activities utilizing telemedicine technology under provider direction. 14. Maintains compliance with HIPAA regulations, clinic policies, and telehealth documentation requirements. 15. Assists with quality improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and patient satisfaction efforts. 16. Attends staff meetings, in-services, and required educational activities. 17. Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor or provider to support efficient clinic operations.
Competencies 1. Basic knowledge of outpatient clinical workflows and telemedicine operations. 2. Knowledge of medical terminology and neurological conditions. 3. Ability to accurately obtain and document patient information within the EMR. 4. Familiarity with insurance verification and prior authorization processes. 5. Strong organizational and time management skills. 6. Excellent customer service and communication skills. 7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with protected health information. 8. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced outpatient environment. 9. Basic troubleshooting skills for telehealth platforms and audiovisual equipment.

Requirements Required Education and Experience 1. High school graduate or equivalent. 2. Current BCLS certification or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. 3. Previous outpatient clinic or medical office experience preferred. 4. Experience with telemedicine platforms and EMR systems preferred.
