Location: San Francisco, CA – San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) Schedule: Part‑time, 12 hours per week (2 days/week, 6 hours/day) Contract Term: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2031 (base year with option years) Compensation: $145–$165/hour (W‑2), depending on cardiothoracic experience, EVH volume, robotic experience, VA credentialing readiness, and overall clinical fit
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant to support surgical services at the San Francisco VA Health Care System. This position plays a critical role in maintaining continuity of cardiothoracic care for Veterans under a federal VA contract.
Kaleidoscope Supply Services supports staffing for this position on behalf of a client company. If selected, you will be employed by the client contractor and will not be a federal or VA employee.
This is a highly specialized, low‑hour, high‑skill role, offering predictable scheduling, no call requirements, and competitive hourly compensation reflective of the San Francisco market and VA credentialing demands.
What You’ll Do
Serve as first and second assistant during cardiothoracic surgical cases Act as bedside assistant for robotic thoracic procedures Perform endoscopic radial and saphenous vein harvesting Provide advanced procedural support, including: Ultrasound‑guided arterial and venous access Central line placement Swan‑Ganz catheter insertion/removal Chest tube and pigtail insertion/removal Perform cardioversion and pacing wire removal Deliver direct patient care (approximately 99.8% clinical time) Complete operative and procedure documentation in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) following each case Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program Successful completion of PANCE and active NCCPA certification Current ACLS and BLS certifications Licensure
Active, unrestricted PA license from any U.S. state or territory California PA license required prior to start date, per SFVAHCS privileging requirements Experience
Documented experience performing 100+ endoscopic vein harvests, including: Radial vein harvesting Saphenous vein harvesting VA Credentialing & Compliance
Candidates must be able to successfully complete:
VA credentialing and privileging (VetPro) Background investigation and PIV badge issuance VA‑mandated training (HIPAA/Privacy and Cybersecurity Awareness) Compliance with VA workplace conduct and appearance standards Candidates with prior VA credentialing or VetPro experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Hourly pay is for hours worked onsite only, verified by time and attendance No weekends, no call, no paid federal holidays No vacation or personal leave Paid sick leave provided in accordance with Executive Order 13706 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (up to 56 hours annually) Overtime permitted only with written authorization This is a contract‑based, non‑personal services position. No medical, dental, vision, retirement, or holiday benefits are provided beyond federally required sick leave.
