About this role

* Carries out communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and control measures for the City of Boston. * Investigates reports of communicable diseases including pathogens of public health importance, reported outbreaks, or other situations of public health concern, including emerging pathogen events. * Conducts field investigations (including home and site visits) and implements preventive and control measures as needed. * Provides nursing services at the BMC TB Clinic, including patient assessment, patient/family/significant other education, medication monitoring, and tuberculin skin testing. * Assists with surveillance and control activities for mass casualty events * Collects epidemiologic data as needed for analysis of communicable diseases within Boston. * Provides nursing support for CDC Division including vaccine clinics and other projects or activities as needed. * Acts as a resource re education and outreach to community-based agencies, health care facilities and providers, individuals, and other internal and external stakeholders in matters related to infectious diseases * Participates in staff conferences and meetings, other departmental and community committees, research activities, quality improvement activities and program planning as requested. * Collaborates with others throughout the Division to ensure public health preparedness * Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications * Licensed to practice as Registered Nurse in Massachusetts. * BSN or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field required with minimum of two years of clinical or public health experience, except that 8 years clinical or public health experience (health education, outreach) may be substituted for a BSN or Bachelor's Degree * Masters in Public Health degree may be substituted for one year of experience. * Prior experience working with infectious diseases preferred. * Demonstrated competency in working with diverse ethnic, cultural & socio-economic groups. * Excellent communication and organizational skills. * Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities in the home, community & group settings. * Computer skills including Microsoft Word or comparable software required. * Bilingual preferred (Spanish or Asian language). * Current Massachusetts drivers license and own vehicle.
